The Herman Blue Habitat for Humanity House is FINISHED!!

Front Street UMC, in coordination with Habitat for Humanity, sponsored and helped build a house in memory of Herman Blue. Herman Blue was a long time member of Front Street and was one of the pioneers that established Habitat for Humanity in Alamance County. Church members donated money, time and talent to construct this house. Construction started February 23 with church members volunteering each Saturday to provide part of the labor force necessary for construction. Due to the tremendous response from Front Street volunteers, all work dates had a full slate of workers. It was more of a fun and rewarding experience than it was work. Progress raced ahead of schedule and our work concluded on April 26, a week ahead of schedule! The Core Construction teams, the carpet and flooring folks, the bathroom and appliance installers and the final inspections will be completed in the next couple of weeks! We will have the official dedication on Saturday, June 7th, at the residence. It would be great if everyone who helped with this build could be there with their Herman Blue shirts on!

Imagine the joy felt when presented with the keys to your new house and becoming a homeowner for the first time. A house you helped construct. Ms. Natasha Bumpass will soon experience that joy. Also imagine the joy felt in the hearts of those that helped in making this person’s dream become a reality. Front Street members may feel that joy knowing that with God’s blessing you opened your heart in whatever way you could to help fulfill the dream of home ownership for Ms. Bumpass and her two children, Davianna Shyanne and Aaron John.

We will have one last opportunity to help Natasha and her family get settled into their new home. We are considering having a ’ Gardening Day’ to make a couple flowerbeds and plant flowers and maybe a couple trees after the final ‘move-in’ inspection. Details about this event will be forth coming.

We have been so blessed by the turnout of volunteers and support from Front Street members throughout this project…. But, we are still about $3,800 short of our goal to pay off our obligation to Habitat for Humanity! If you want to make a contribution please get it into the church office no later than May 31st.

What a great place to call your church home and to be an active member in the Christian Community. Thank you, Front Street, for all you did in helping construct this house to improve the lives of a deserving family.
